The Science Behind Sulapac®

Sulapac’s® bio-based composite material combines bio-based binders and sustainable fillers like side stream wood and natural mineral clay to deliver a highly functional, eco-friendly solution.

This careful blend of up to 100% bio-based materials improves the rate of biodegradation, enhances functionality, and refines the product’s appearance.

Biodegradability

Breaks Down Naturally. Leaves Nothing Harmful Behind.

Sulapac® is engineered to biodegrade naturally, just like fallen leaves or wood, without leaving harmful microplastics behind. Tests under industrial composting conditions (EN13432) show it fully breaks down and returns to soil within about three months.
Moreover, the plant-based materials in Sulapac® absorb CO₂ during growth, giving it a much lower carbon footprint than fossil-based plastics.

Biodegradation requires the presence of heat, moisture, and microorganisms—without these, Sulapac® remains quite stable.

In contrast, petroleum-based plastics physically break down into microplastics that persist in the environment. These microplastics accumulate through the food chain, ultimately reaching humans.

Sulapac® avoids this problem: even if it escapes recycling or composting systems, it fully biodegrades in nature, leaving no microplastic residues—making it safer for both ecosystems and people.
